The Muskegon Lumberjacks completed a trade on Wednesday, acquiring forward Zach Saar from the Des Moines Buccaneers.
The Jacks also received the Buccaneers’ fifth-round draft pick in the 2013 USHL Futures Draft. Des Moines receives Muskegon’s second-round pick in the same futures draft.
Saar, 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, is a native of Plainwell who had 12 points in 30 games for the Buccaneers. He is committed to playing college hockey at Penn State University next season.
“We are excited to bring in a power forward, as well as bringing another Michigan-native back home to help the Lumberjacks in our drive for a USHL Championship,” Lumberjacks owner and CEO Josh Mervis said. “Zach (Saar) is an excellent player, as well as an NHL prospect that will benefit greatly from having our coaching staff – Jim McKenzie and Ron Gay – help him to develop into his fullest potential.”
Saar is in his third year with the USHL and has 47 points (22 goals and 25 assists) in 117 games played between Des Moines and Chicago.
Before his USHL career, he played for the Detroit Little Caesars Midget Minor team.
