Western Michigan Christian girls overcome Spring Lake in nonleague basketball action

The Western Michigan Christian Warriors battled back with a solid third quarter and defeated the Spring Lake Lakers 54-48 in a nonleague basketball game on Saturday night.

Spring Lake led 28-24 at the half, but a big 20-point third quarter pushed the Warriors ahead. WMC was able to take the lead in the latter stages of the third quarter on key basketballs by Lorelle Hallenbeck, Cassidy Kraker and Sarah Hughes. That gave WMC a 44-38 lead after three quarters.

Rachel Bruinsma led the Warriors (8-3) with 14 points. Jessica Knoll added 12 and Vanessa Eekhoff had 10.

Molly Miedema led Spring Lake with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Brittany Beeler and Megan VanDeWeg added nine points each.
