Spring Lake hung on in the late going on Monday night and defeated the host Fremont Packers 55-46 in Lakes 8 boys basketball.
For much of the game, the teams were not more than four points apart. Fremont had a one-point lead late in the third quarter before Kyle Zietlow canned a 3-pointer and the Lakers took a 1-point lead into the final eight minutes.
Zietlow hit another 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter that gave Spring Lake the momentum.
Fremont was able to battle back to within three points with slightly less than 1 minute left, but Spring Lake made 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch and 10-of-11 in the fourth quarter.
Austin Johnson scored 15 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter and that included making all seven of his free throws.
Mike Siegel led Fremont with 16 points and Dylan Krim added 13. The Packers were hampered by poor shooting with a 29 percent clip for the game.
“We had great looks at the basket all game, the shots just wouldn’t fall and Spring Lake made shots late when they needed to,” Fremont coach Pete Zerfas said.
Fremont fell to 9-7, 7-3.
