The visiting Tri-unity Christian Defenders showed they are ready for the start of next week’s boys basketball tournament.

On Thursday night, the Defenders gunned down Western Michigan Christian 58-36 and completed the River Valley Conference schedule with an 8-0 record. WMC finished the regular season 13-7, 4-4 in the River Valley.

Tri-unity, the No. 1 team in the state in Class D, stormed out to a 20-8 lead after one quarter behind in the shooting of Matt Wachter, who scored 10 points in the first quarter and finished the game with 14.

Junior Bernard Smith led the Warriors with 10 points and James Jackson added eight.

The Warriors host Saugatuck in the opening game of the Class C district tournament on Monday.
