The Mason County Central Spartans surged to an early lead and defeated Manistee 74-49 in a Class B district opener on Monday night.

It was the second straight game the teams had played since they ended the regular season with a game last week.

“This was a tough situation playing then in game 20 and 21, but really, we didn’t do anything differently between the two games,” said MCC coach Jeff Tuka. “We came out with intensity and Bennett was the catalyst.”

Nick Bennett led the Spartans with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Kody Ambrose chipped in with 16 points.

MCC led 19-7 after one quarter and 43-23 at the half.

The Spartans will take on Ludington on Wednesday.
