The Muskegon Community College Jayhawk baseball team has been waiting for some favorable weather this spring.
On Thursday, the Jayhawks got back on the field and the result was a doubleheaders sweep of Davenport’s jayvee team. MCC won the opener 5-3 and the nightcap 8-2.
The games were played on the new Davenport Complex, which has artificial turf.
Jayhawk pitcher Nick Eely pitched 6 1/3 strong innings and scattered two hits. He allowed four hits. Bryant Westra notched his third save of the season.
Patrick Giddings led the Jayhawks with three hits. Travis Cohoon had two hits and two RBI and Jason Ribecky added two hits.
In Game 2, Kyle Vedrode was the winning pitcher by scattering three hits in five innings of work. Nick Keller pitched the last two innings for his first save. Jason Ribecky, Drew Johnson and M.J. Oshinski each had two hits. Oshinski drove in two runs and Travis Cohoon belted his third home run.
MCC is 9-6 with is home opener scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday against Macomb in the league opener.
