A golf coach with five seniors returning would certainly take plenty of optimism into the upcoming season.

That’s the case for Montague coach Tom Kearney, who has two regional qualifiers among those five golfers.

“We will be a very experienced team,” Kearney said. “Although we do not have any all-league performers returning, all of the seniors had had plenty of playing experience.”

Leading the way are the two regional qualifiers – Tracy Lawrence and Dylan Lohman. Other returning seniors include Riley Lohman, Nate Van Geison and Sebastian Felt.

One other returnee from last season is sophomore Matt Visger, who played in a handful of varsity matches a year ago. Freshman Devin Roesler may turn some heads before the season is over as well.

Beyond that, Kearney said his team has plenty of freshmen and sophomores with limited golf experience.

“It will be a year of discovery and working toward improving both individual and team performances for them,” said Kearney, who hopes his squad can improve on last season’s fifth-place finish in the league.
