Spring preview: Fruitport hopes to stay close in Lakes 8 golf race

Local Sports Journal

Fruitport golf coach Jim McGannon knows his Trojan team will be looking up at front runners Spring Lake and Ludington, but that isn’t his big concern at this point.

Instead, he’s look at developing a team that finished fifth in the Lakes 8 a year ago and making a push upward.

“We will be competitive, but below league leaders Spring Lake and Ludington,” McGannon said.

The Trojans are led by second-team all-conference selection Colton Blanchard, who finished with a nine-hole average of 42 last season. Also returning are Bryce Austin (45 average) and Austin Buckingham (48 average).

Six untested freshmen also are included on the Trojan roster.
