Local Sports Journal

Being competitive in the West Michigan Conference race is the main goal of Coach Mindy Whitney and the boys track team at Hart High School.

To do that, the Pirates will be relying on a solid group of returning performers from last year.

That group includes seniors Justin Andresmooi (all-conference high jumper), Adam Emery (pole vault), Elijah Flores (400, relays), JR Hinojosa (shot put, relays), Evan Lake (shot put and discus), Jon Vanderstelt (distance), Jared Albus (middle distance, distance), Torian Williams (400 and relays) and Jim Moore (pole vault).

Other top returnees include junior Lenin Castillo (high jump, relays, middle distance), Bony Hernandez (sprints, relays), sophomore Estevan Escamillia (sprints) and sophomore Juan Lugo (middle distance, distance, relays).

Others to watch for this season include junior Derrick Boarddus, sophomore Ryan Scott and freshmen Luis De Blas, Jonah Gale, Devin Whitney and Sam Hernandez.
