Coach Steve Schuitema’s team advanced to the state semifinals before falling to eventual state champion Decatur 3-2.

There is a solid nucleus of players who were part of that 26-9 season.

Those key players include Dominic Detorres, Phil Mesker, Alex Lewandoski, Adam Callow, Nick Holt and Zach Huston.

“We will be a very young team, starting as many as four sophomores and freshmen,” Schuitema said. “We have more pitching depth than we have had in the past and our top two pitchers, Nick Holt and Dominic Detorres, should keep us in most games that they pitch.”

Detorres was a second-team all-state selection a year ago and Holt was first team all-region.

Key newcomers include Zack Winzer, Anthony Woodard, Jacob Holt and Ian Tyler.

“We should be a favorite for our conference championship,” Schuitema said. “And, we have high goals for our team again this season.”
