It will be a youthful band of Crusaders taking the field this spring for the Muskegon  Catholic softball team.

First-year coach Kenneth Patterson takes over a squad that includes just one senior and one junior.

“The team is extremely young,” Patterson said. “We don’t have a jayvee team. We will have freshmen at the key positions of pitcher and catcher.”

That battery of youth will be Caroline Price on the mound and Janae Schultz behind the plate.

Key returnees from last season include senior Courtney Vanderwater along with sophomores Kara Komerek, Katie Sullivan and Kyra Pikowitz.

Top newcomers, besides Price and Schultz, are sophomore Tae Robertson and junior Janae Coon.

“Caroline Price and Janae Schultz are very talented and a lot will depend on how they adjust to varsity competition,” Patterson said. “We will come ready to play and represent Muskegon Catholic to the best of our ability.”
