The Michigan Department of Natural Resources

The Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters to check their spring turkey drawing results and the availability of leftover licenses, now online at www.michigan.gov/huntdrawings.

Leftover spring turkey licenses go on sale to unsuccessful license applicants on Monday, March 11, at 10 a.m. Licenses will go on sale to all other hunters, including those who did not participate in the application process, on Monday, March 18, at 10 a.m. Leftover licenses will be sold until quotas are met.

“Turkey hunters looking for flexibility should consider Hunt 234, which runs May 6-31 and includes all open areas of the state except the public lands of southern Michigan,” said DNR upland game bird specialist Al Stewart. Hunt 234 licenses may be purchased by any hunter until May 1.

“Hunting in the Upper Peninsula also offers great flexibility, where all open areas are included in one hunt unit and licenses are good for the entire April 22 – May 31 season,” Stewart added.

Hunting licenses can be purchased online at www.mdnr-elicense.comHunters may purchase only one spring turkey license in a season.

In 2012, Michigan hunters harvested approximately 31,337 turkeys, making Michigan one of the top six turkey hunting states in the country. In addition, opinion surveys show the majority of hunters were satisfied with their spring turkey hunting experience.
