Brendan Woods

Former Muskegon Lumberjack forward Brendan Woods made his professional hockey debut on Tuesday night for the American Hockey League’s Charlotte Checkers.

Woods had two shots on goal in the Checkers’ 4-3 overtime victory over Peoria.

Woods, 20, left the University of Wisconsin last week to sign a contract with the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes. He was a fifth-round draft pick (129th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

He played two seasons ago for the USHL’s Lumberjacks before moving on to Wisconsin, where he played two seasons of college hockey.
