Woods, who played for Muskegon in the 2010-11 season, will report to the Hurricanes’ American Hockey League affiliate in Charlotte once the final paperwork is completed.

Woods was the Hurricanes’ fifth-round draft pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He played two seasons for the University of Wisconsin after his one-year stint in Muskegon.

For the Lumberjacks, the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder played in 57 games. He scored 14 goals and added 12 assists for 26 points. He also had 86 penalty minutes.

In two seasons for the Badgers, the native of Fairfax, Va., totaled 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points in 75 games.

He is the first Lumberjack to sign a professional contract in the three-year history of the USHL franchise.
