Hesperia downed Newaygo in two games on Friday. The Panthers won 9-6  and 10-0.

Mera Schmitz posted her first win of the season for Hesperia. Schmitz went all seven innings with six strikeouts, one walk and four earned runs.

Hesperia struggled through four innings, trailing 4-3. But the Panthers’ bats came alive in the fifth and sixth scoring three runs in each inning.

Alexis Castillo led Game 1 with three hits including a three-run home run, a double and single. Meradith Schmitz, Katie Annis, and Rachel Farber had two hits each for Hesperia.

In Game 2, Annis gave up just one hit and struck out seven and had no walks in the win.

Hesperia scored four runs in the first and six in the fourth.

Paiton Beekman led for Hesperia with two hits, an RBI and scored two runs.
