Zach Winzser’s second hit of the game plated Anthony Woodard with the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning on Thursday and Muskegon Catholic Central held on for the 10-9 win over the North Muskegon Norsemen.

Winzer’s single followed a two-out intentional walk to Nick Holt to put runners at first and second with the score tied at 9-all. Winzer then singled through the hole between shortstop and third base to score Woodard.

MCC had four-run leads twice in the game only to see NM battle back each time, but errors sank the Norsemen’s chances to stay in the game as only three of MCC’s 10 runs were earned.

First, the Crusaders erased a 1-0 deficit with a five-run third inning with the final two runs coming on a dropped flyball by NM’s left fielder.

After NM battled back to get within one at 6-5, the Crusaders scored three unearned runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-5 lead. Dominic DeTorres had a two-run single for MCC in the inning.

The Norse knotted the score at 9 with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. The score remained that way until the seventh.

Adam Callow picked up the win with  1 1/3 innings of relief for the 5-0 Crusaders. Reese McCamant took the loss for NM, which fell to 3-2.

For the Crusaders, Alex Lewandoski and Zach Huston each scored two runs while Lewandoski and Phil Mesker each had a double.

DeTorres finished with three RBI and Winzer finished with two RBI.NM was led by Jesse Dunn, who had a single and a double. Adam Edick scored twice while Adrian Anderson had two RBI.
