Three area baseball teams made the best of a tough situation on Saturday after the baseball tournament at Marsh Field was cancelled.

Montague, Western Michigan Christian and Shelby headed to Montague for a round-robin event.

Montague defeated WM Christian 9-6. The Wildcats were led by Brandon Stine with two hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Ben Rupert had a double and Chase Casebolt knocked in two runs. Montague scored three runs in the first and fifth innings. David Rogers picked up the victory on the mound. Bryce Raeth picked up the save.

In the day’s second game, Shelby posted a 9-4 victory over Western Michigan Christian. The Tigers scored eight runs in the first inning. WMC was led by Bailey Heykoop with three singles, Logan Waller had two and Henry DeKam had a single and a double.

In the day’s third game, Montague blanked Shelby 7-0 behind the pitching of freshman Jacob Buchberger, who allowed two hits, gave up one walk and struck out seven. Chayce Lohman had two hits to lead the offense. Montague scored three runs in the first and two in the fifth.
