Cullen Hurley and Christian Heil each scored two goals on Saturday night and led the Muskegon Lumberjacks to a 5-1 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers.
The game was played before 2,407 spectators at L.C. Walker Arena.
The outcome gave Muskegon a split of the two-game home series against the second-place Gamblers. It also keeps alive the Jacks’ chance for a second-place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Hurley and Heil scored in the first period in which Muskegon led 2-1.
The lead was extended to 3-1 in the second period on Hurley’s second goal.
Third-period goals by Heil and defenseman Doyle Somerby provided Muskegon with insurance goals. Heil’s goal not only came on the power play, but was an empty-netter.
Joe Cox had two assists.
Goaltender Jordan Uhelski stopped 24-of-25 shots he faced. Muskegon had a 38-25 advantage in shots on goal.
Muskegon has qualified forĀ the 2013 USHL Clark Cup Playoffs that is tentatively slated to begin on Tuesday, April 16th. Dates andĀ opponent for the first round have yet to be determined.
