Newaygo sent some shock waves through the CSAA on Tuesday by sweeping Chippewa Hills 9-4 and 4-2 in a baseball doubleheader.

Chippewa Hills came into the season as a solid favorite to win the league title.

However, in the opener, Andrew Middleton pitched a complete game. He allowed eight hits and struck out four. He was supported by the bat of Matt Milbourne, who had three hits, including a triple.

The Lions beat all-state pitcher Jake Tarbell by scoring a run in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth.

In the second game,  Milbourne pitched a complete game with four strikeouts in six innings. Milbourne again was the offensive lead with two hits, one a double.

The Lions helped their cause throughout the day by committing just three errors.
