Newaygo sent some shock waves through the CSAA on Tuesday by sweeping Chippewa Hills 9-4 and 4-2 in a baseball doubleheader.
Chippewa Hills came into the season as a solid favorite to win the league title.
However, in the opener, Andrew Middleton pitched a complete game. He allowed eight hits and struck out four. He was supported by the bat of Matt Milbourne, who had three hits, including a triple.
The Lions beat all-state pitcher Jake Tarbell by scoring a run in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth.
In the second game, Milbourne pitched a complete game with four strikeouts in six innings. Milbourne again was the offensive lead with two hits, one a double.
The Lions helped their cause throughout the day by committing just three errors.
Good start to the season. It may be the only games they play all year!
You might not be far off from that statement!
