Solid hitting, quality pitching carry Muskegon Community College to softball doubleheader sweep

The Muskegon Community College used big bats in the opener and a shutout pitching performance in the nightcap to sweep two games from Lake Michigan Community College on Sunday.

The Jayhawks won the first game 10-3 and the second game 1-0.

In the opener, Jessica Gillings had three hits and knocked in four runs to spark the Jayhawks, who scored eight runs in the first three innings to take early control of the game.

Kaytlin Wozniak gave up three hits and no earned runs to claim the victory in the opener. She stuck out three and allowed no walks.

In the second game, MCC pitcher Taylor Lemke needed just one run of support to pick up the victory. Lemke pitched seven strong innings. She allowed three hits and struck out four.

Taylor Sanicki had a triple in the first inning and drove in the game’s lone run.

MCC is 18-15 overall, 9-2 in the Western Conference.
