There’s optimism on the North Muskegon boys track team for this upcoming season.

With a trio of key returnees and a larger than usual roster, the Norsemen are planning for a solid season.

Key returnees include Zach Rummery in the 400, Jake Walton in the pole vault and Jake Berends in the hurdles and the pole vault.

“Strengths of the team will be depth, hurdles, relays and field events,” said NM co-coach Doug Clark, who coaches along with Al Karaba. “It’s a good group of returning runners who will provide leadership.”

Like every other team, weather has been a factor, which has put working on field events well behind schedule.

“We will use the early meets to get a gauge on how competitive we can be and be able to place people in events that will cater to the strengths of the team,” Clark said. “We hope to improve as the season goes on and be competitive at regionals.”
