Off-season workouts by a number of players has Coach Meghan Scott encouraged about the upcoming softball season at Hart High School.

However, the last of returning players with experience is rather short. Anastasia Shellhouse is a junior catcher, Theresa Tate is a senior pitcher and Alexis Tiles is a senior infielder.

Tate will take over on the mound with the graduation of four-year starter Deanna Stevenson.

“The focus of our program is to improve and there are some encouraging signs,” Scott said. Those signs include the off-season development of Tate and Haley Mast as pitchers. Mast is a freshman, who will also see time in the infield. Baylee Drayper, another freshman, is a pitcher and infielder.

“Another encouraging sign is that our numbers have allowed us to field a jayvee team for the first time in four years,” Scott said. That is due to the influx of 12 freshmen into the program.

“The girls have shown a lot of commitment and dedication, which is key to building the program,” Scott said. “There are a lot of good teams in the West Michigan Conference.  With the level of commitment and dedication that these young players show, we hope to be competitive in every game.”
