The Newaygo Lions got a first-hand look at the No. 8 ranked Rockford Rams on Monday.

The Lions dropped 9-0 and 4-3 decisions in the nonleague baseball doubleheader. The second game took eight innings to decide a winner.

Newaygo used five different pitchers on the night.

“This was a great experience for a young Newaygo team to go play the No. 8 team in Division 1,” Newaygo coach Jeff Milbourne said. “This gives us confidence going into our schedule knowing that we can compete at any level.”

Robby Mendham led the Lions with two hits and one RBI.

Newaygo is now 2-2 overall, 2-0 in the conference.
