The Western Michigan Christian Warriors adjusted to a rain-soaked field on Tuesday and defeated Fremont 7-1 in a nonleague girls soccer match.

Sophomore Alexys Riksen led the way with three goals while freshman Jessica Kinnucan added two goals and one assist. Other Warrior goals were scored by senior Julie Merz and freshman Brea Frein.

“Although this was a team effort, it was nice to have our younger players step up so strong for the first game,” Warrior coach David Hulings said. “We had to experiment with player position and style of play, but the girls did a good job of adapting to conditions, the other team and the first-year jitters.”
WMC had a 28-8 advantage in shots on goal.
“The defenders did a good job to keep Fremont off the board for most of the game,” Hulings said. “Alli Langeland had her first start leading in the back and really did a great job.”
Warrior goalkeeper Lindsey Johnson made seven saves.
