The Whitehall Vikings captured the Whitehall Viking Baseball Invitational on Saturday by defeating Fremont 7-3 in the title game.

The four-team invitational included the Vikings, Packers, Ludington and Morley-Stanwood.

In the semifinal games, Fremont defeated Ludington 4-0 and Whitehall defeated Morley-Stanwood 3-2 in eight innings.

Viking pitcher Zach Zweigle pitched all eight innings. He allowed six hits, struck out six and allowed no walks. Noah Robart had three hits, including a two-run homer.

In the finals, Ian Zweigle posted the victory on the mound with five effective innings of relief. He allowed one run, two hits, one walk and he struck out three. Zach Zweigle had two hits and Daniel DuBois reached base four times and came around to score three times.

“The name of the game is throwing strikes and playing good defense and we did both today,” Viking coach Warren Zweigle said. “I’m really starting to like the way we are playing. We’re playing our best baseball of the year right now.

“It’s always extra special to win a tournament when you’re the one hosting it,” he said.

In the consolation finals, Morley-Stanwood defeated Ludington 10-7.
