The Kent City Eagles had a solid day on the softball field on Saturday and finished second at the Hesperia tournament.

In the title game, the Eagles dropped a 3-1 decision to Beal City. In an earlier game, Kent City defeated White Cloud 7-1.

Beal City scored one run in the third, only to see Kent City tie it in the fourth. Beal City then pushed across two runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory.

“Today was a great day for us,” Kent City coach Krisha Hoffman said. “We finally put together everything we have been talking about and came together as a team. We dropped the championship game, but it was a great game that I was very proud of the way our girls played.

Ella Clay allowed seven hits and struck out three on the mound for Kent City. Janae Atwood had two hits while Justin Wolter had one hit and knocked in the lone run with a sacrifice fly.

In the victory over White Cloud, Maddie Abshier was the winning pitcher. Leading hitters were Wolter, Atwood and Nikki VanLoon each with two hits. VanLoon had a triple and knocked in two runs. Her two-run triple gave the Eagles the early lead.
