The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks’ baseball team clinched second place in the Western Conference with a doubleheader sweep of Lake Michigan Community College on Thursday.

The Jayhawks won the opener 8-7 and the nightcap 14-0.

Adam Poel gave up two earned runs over six innings to earn his seventh victory of the season. Bryant Westra came on to pick up his 13th save of the season.

Travis Cohoon and Patrick Giddings led the Jayhawks with three hits each.  Giddings had two triples and two RBI.  Kory Brown added two hits and Jason Ribecky hit a solo homer.

In Game 2,  four Jayhawks had two hits each – Kory Brown, Travis Cohoon, M.J. Oshinski and Drew Johnson.

David Foster pitched the five-inning shutout. He gave up three hits and struck out five.

The Jayhawks finished the 14- team MCCAA league in second place with a 19-7 record in the conference and are now 30-13 overall.
