The Onekama Portagers scored the game’s first two runs, but the Western Michigan Christian Warriors scored the next 12 in a 12-2 nonleague baseball victory on Saturday.

The game was played at Mona Shores High School due to wet field conditions at WMC’s home field.

Matt VanderPloeg pitched a complete game for WMC (2-11). He gave up three hits, struck out four and walked two.

Leading hitters were Logan Waller with a triple and a single and Jared Varnado with a double and a single. Austin Sandin and Eric Bourdo each had two hits.

Onekama was plagued by 10 errors.

“We played extremely well defensively and hit the ball fairly well,” WMC coach Darin Waller said. “We continue to play better every game.”
