The Whitehall Vikings were able to post a doubleheader sweep after surviving a comeback bid from the Montague Wildcats in West Michigan Conference softball action.

Whitehall won the opener 8-3 and the nightcap 9-7.

In the first game, Montague jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Vikings scored eight unanswered runs to claim the victory.

In the nightcap, Montague scored three runs in the seventh inning to pull to within two runs. Montague’s Chase Mickelson ripped a shot up the middle that Whitehall pitcher Megan Stout snagged for the final out. Stout came on in the fifth inning and picked up the victory.

Stout had seven hits in the twinbill and Alyssa Myers had five.

Whitehall is 8-7 overall, 5-3 in the WMC.
