Devon Liberty, of Edwards, IL, carded an even-par 72 to take the lead after the first round of the Second Junior Patriot Cup Classic at Grand Haven Golf Club.

Matt Nalley, of Grand Haven, had the top Michigan finish in the 32-player tournament with a 77 for fourth place. Foggy conditions delayed the start of the tournament for 30 minutes.

Brian Dolehide, of Hinsdale, IL, had a 73 for second place in the boys 12-18 age group while Grant Filer, of Clarendon Hills, IL, slipped into third place with a three-over-par 75.

Other leaders after the first day of the 36-hole tournament organized by the Mid-American Junior Golf Tournament were Blake Yaccino, of Kenilworth, IL, in the girls’ 12-18 division and Ned Rohrbach of Glencoe, IL, in the college men division.

Maddy Swank, of Clarendon Hills, IL, had an 82 for second place and Tiffany Boak, of Woodridge, Il, an 83 for third place in the girls division which had seven entries.

Ryan Starkman, of Mount Prospect, IL, had an 81 for second place and C.J. Beisswanger, of Oak Brook, IL, a 92 for third place in the three-player college men division.

Mickey Brick, of Frankfort, IL, and Shane Hoben, of Minneapolis, MN, tied for fifth place in the 20-player boys 12-18 division as each carded 78s.

The final round is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10, at Grand Haven Golf Club.

Golfers entered in the tournament included players from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Michigan.
