The Muskegon Community College Jayhawk Cross Country Team will host its Second Annual Jayhawk Team Challenge 5K cross country race on Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at McGraft Park.

The event is for three-person teams in all age groups. The course is used by Muskegon High School. It is a 2-1/4 loop relatively flat course with two hills and several turns. Course records are 15:43 by Chase Barnett, of Mason County Central, for the men; and 18:45 by Ali Wiersma for the women.

Awards will be presented to the overall male, female and coed teams and the top three male, female and coed teams entered in the event. Age groups are by the combined ages of the three runners — zero to 51 years; 52-123 years; 124-162 years; 163-181 years; and more than 182 years.

The age on race day will be used to decide that person’s entry age for the event.

Runners may sign up as three-person teams, or they may show up at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 and be assigned to a team if need be. Runners also may compete individually. Race packets may be picked up that day starting at 4:30 p.m.

Entry fees are $45 for a three-person team, or $15 per person, as long as the entry is postmarked no later than July 24.  Entry fees after that date and on the day of the race will be $60 per three-person team, or $20 per person for individual entries.

McGraft Park is located at 2204 Wickham Drive in Muskegon, MI, 49441.

The Team Challenge 5K is a fund-raiser for the Muskegon Community College cross country program. MCC coach Dan Fishel is the contact person for the event.

Entry forms may be sent to the Jayhawk Team Challenge 5K, Muskegon Community College, Athletic Department, 221 S. Quarterline, Muskegon, MI 49442. Checks for the entry fees should be made out to MCC Cross Country.
