Muskegon Community College opens up its men’s cross country season soon and is amped up with a solid group of runners.
The Jayhawks look to make a run at a regional title with sophomore Mathias Waterstradt. The North Muskegon grad holds MCC’s school record and will compete for top runner honors on the team.
Esrom Woldemichael and Austin Elliot are strong incoming freshman for MCC. Woldemichael ran a 15:34 5k in cross country and posted a 9:21 in the 3200 track event last year for Grand Rapids Northview. Spring Lake grad Elliott finished third in the 1600 meters event at the Division 2 state finals with a 4:21 and was a personal record.
Other standouts for the men could be Logan Irey (Whitehall), David VanBergen (Fruitport), Jacob Baker (Mona Shores), Alex Drew (Coopersville), Cameron Kroening (Orchard View), Tyler Grove (Whitehall) and Spencer Morse (Montague).
Cari, Sounds like your son, as an incoming Freshman at MCC, is a Cross Country runner to be watched….He certainly did well his Senior Year at SL! Good for him! You have the right to be really proud of him. Hope to see you at our next CORE mtg. which is August 29th, 7PM @ the Spring Lake Library, Program Room 1.
Kaye of CORE.
Yay thanks Kaye! Austin's freshman year at MCC was a success, he'll be back this fall to run with the Jayhawks and hopefully get them to Nationals again! What an experience for them!
