RAVENNA – Any questions regarding whether or not Kent City could overcome its fourth-straight season with a new head coach were answered, at least for one game, Thursday night with a dominating 52-33 victory over the Ravenna Bulldogs.
Kent City hasn’t topped 50 points in a game since the 2010 season.
The Bulldogs got on the board first with a six-yard TD pass, but the Eagles quickly responded with a Jake Krueger to Chad Brown TD toss which, with a missed PAT, made the score 7-6.
Minutes later, Krueger struck again, this time to Dustin Heeringa. Another missed PAT give Kent City the slight 12-7 edge.
Ravenna regained the lead mid way through the second quarter, but over the final five minutes of the first half would results in 36 points, as two Bulldog scores were sandwiched between two Krueger TD strikes, to Shane Rodenburg and Jayson Ellicott.
Kent City led 28-27 at the break.
The Eagles dominated the third quarter, getting TD runs from Zach Widener (19 yards) and Brown (67 yards) and a six-yard TD pass from Krueger to Brown.
Krueger compiled 14-for-28 passing for 139 yards and five scores, with Brown leading all rushers with 139 yards on 12 carries and one score, and Widener adding 39 yards and score on five carries. Rodenburg hauled in eight passes for 138 yards and a score, with Brown adding four catches for 38 yards and two TDs.
