COOPERSVILLE – Spring Lake took care of business early and often, scoring 28 first quarter points in a 35-6 nonconference rout of host Coopersville.

“It’s big, you know, Coopersville is always a formidable opponent,” Lakers coach Jerry Rabideau said. “It’s a great win for us, we’re a solid team and anytime you can start out with a win it’s huge.”

Spring Lake quarterback Mark Williamson wasted no time putting his team on the board, scoring from 50 yards out on the game’s first play.

Marlon Ingles, who finished the game with 111 yards on 13 carries, scored next for SL, rushing in from 55 yards away.

After Williamson connected with Charlie Warber on a 25-yard TD pass for a 21-0 lead, the Lakers defense took over.

First, Warber returned a Broncos’ interception 55 yards for a score to end the first quarter up by 28, then Chase Slagboom scored the second quarters’ lone TD, returning a pick 45 yards.

Defensively, Spring Lake was led by Mike Ready with nine tackles, Jake Fredrick added six and Ingles finished with five.
