The Western Michigan Christian Warrior soccer team got a first-hand look at a state championship team on Thursday night at Warrior Field.

The defending Division 2 state champion Hudsonville Unity Christian Crusaders strolled into town on Thursday night and left with an impressive 4-0 victory over the host Warriors (1-3).

Jared Timmer scored three goals to lead the Crusaders while Carson Brink notched one.

Timmer opened the scoring with a low shot that slid just inside the goalpost with 16:14 remaining in the opening half. Brinks scored near the midpoint of the half and Timmer scored with 7:47 left in the first half to make it 3-0.

Timmer completed the hat trick with 23:02 left in the second half.

We weren’t in the same league as Unity,” WMC coach David Hulings said. “They are a great program and work hard on all parts of the field and every player.

“We hope to emulate them,” Hulings said. “With that said, I was proud of what we learned tonight and that we didn’t give up.   Our guys can build on this for the conference and tournament.”

The Crusaders outshot the Warriors 17-2.
