The Mona Shores soccer team tested itself against the best and fell just short of victory.

The Sailors dropped a 2-1 decision to Holland Thursday in an O-K Black Conference matchup. The Dutch are ranked second in the state.

Holland jumped to an early lead before Mona Shores’ Destin Morley tied the score with an assist from Nathan Hoover. Holland sealed the victory by scoring with about 15 minutes remaining.

Goaltender Eli Bowers had three saves for the Sailors.

Mona Shores fell to 3-2 on the season. The Sailors host Whitehall in nonleague action Monday.
