The Shelby Tigers scored early and often in a 61-7 victory over the Hart Pirates in a West Michigan Conference football game on Friday night.

The Tigers scored 21 points in the opening quarter and 13 more in the second to take a 34-0 lead at the break.

Andy Fortier hit Brody Lee on a 9-yard touchdown pass, Devon Mussell scored on a 33-yard run and Fortier hit Mussell on a 33-yard touchdown pass to account for the scoring in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Fortier found Dylan Unger for a 10-yard touchdown pass. David Guerra also scored in that quarter on a 12-yard run.

In the third quarter, Mussell scored on an 88-yard kickoff return then added a 25-yard touchdown run.

Hart scored on a Joe Phillips 1-yard run.

Mussell then returned another kickoff for a touchdown, this time from 87 yards out. Guerra scored on a 27-yard run.

Fortier completed 6-of-13 passes for 102 yards and three touchdowns. Mussell had three rushes for 63 yards. Unger and Kevin Brink each had nine tackles.

“We played a decent game tonight,” Shelby coach Lorenzo Rodriguez said. “We’re looking forward to a good week of practice and looking forward to our game against Oakridge.”

Hart’s Brady Tate finished with 11 carries for 31 yards.
