Spring Lake was able to reverse its losing trend at Fruitport on Tuesday. The Lakers won in three games and was the first time they beat the Trojans on their home court since 2006.

Ball control was key for Spring Lake which won 25-16, 25-16, and 25-22.

“I have to say the passers and DS’s were outstanding in their ball control,” said Spring Lake head coach Sarah Bulthuis. “Because of our consistent passing, it allowed our setter to mix up the offense and involve many hitters.”

Setter Karley Engelsman had 29 assists that led Kelsee Zuidema to 14 kills, Lydia Suchecki to six kills and Courtney Kyser to five kills.

The Lakers biggest challenge came in Game 3 as the Trojans were on Spring Lake’s heels the entire game.

“We had to fight in Game 3, it was close the whole set” said Buithuis. “I was proud we persevered to finish the match. We put out a great effort in Game 3.”
