HART – Hart head coach Steve Hlady said this past summer that it was his team’s goal to take a close game into the fourth quarter.

“Hey,” Hlady told his kids, “keep the game close in the third quarter and then anything can happen.”

At Friday night’s regular-season finale, Hart could only keep it close in the first half against visiting Baldwin, falling 47-20.

Trailing 26-14 at the halftime break, the Pirates were outscored 21-6 in the second half to conclude the season with a 0-9 record.

Baldwin finishes 7-2 and now prepare for the playoffs.

“(We) fell behind 34-14 early in the third quarter and couldn’t recover,” said Hlady.

Hart’s Brandon Amstutz finished with 220 yards on 30 carries for 220 yards and two scores (from 40 yards and one yard away).

The Pirate defense was led by Matt Wilson and Jaykob Gallop, with both finishing with eight stops.

Senior Tyler Lenon finished his final game as a Hart Pirate with a fumble recovery for a TD.

“We enjoy coaching and this was a great group of kids to coach with,” said Hlady. “We work ed hard all year. When you’re done, you always want more. We’re kind of sad it’s over.”
