The Holton Red Devils, down to only 13 players due to injuries, broke into the victory column Friday with a 54-26 homecoming win over White Cloud in Central State Athletic Conference football action.

The victory did not come easy for the Red Devils, who improved to 1-5 on the season. Whte Cloud’s A.J. Asuncion ran back the opening kickoff 80 yard for a touchdown, but Holton returned the favor moments later when Hayden Cregg returned the ensuing kick 70 yards for a score.

Holton led 21-12 after one quarter and at halftime. The Red Devils pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring White Cloud 20-6. The effort began on the first possession of the half when Holton drove 80 yards, capped by Tirzo Angiano’s 4-yard touchdown run.

Grant Younts added a “pick six” interception/touchdown in the third quarter for the Red Devils, who benefitted from improved defensive play in the second quarter.

Brad Epplett paced the explosive Holton attack with 10 rushes for 88 yards and three touchdowns, including a 42-yard scoring catch. Angiano added 56 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown.

Cregg led the Holton defense with 15 tackles, Corey Sokolowski added 13 tackles and an interception and Younts contributed 11 tackles.
