Holton sweeps Chippewa and Spartans at volleyball tri

SCOTTVILLE – The Holton Red Devil volleyball team notched two wins Thursday over squads from bigger schools, defeating Manistee and host Mason County Central, both in two games.

The Red Devils downed Manistee 25-15, 25-23 and the Spartans 25-23, 25-18.

The Spartans went 1-1 on the night, beating Manistee 25-15, 25-13.

Holton was paced by Rachel Younts’ 16 kills, 14 digs and three blocks, while Jacki Stone totaled nine points, two aces, 12 kills and 15 digs.

Felicia Santos finished with 16 service points and six aces, Katie Wildfong with six points and two aces, Shauna Kiogima with seven kills, Shelby Younts with 34 assists, and Ashley Friend with 12 digs.

For the Spartans, Madison Geers led the way with 14 points, four aces, 15 kills and 18 digs, while teammate Rylee Tyndell had 15 assists and two digs, and Abbie Berringer added seven points, nine assists and eight digs for MCC.
