Kent City played a strong three quarters of football on Friday but couldn’t stop Kelloggsville in the fourth falling 47-28.
For every score the Eagles produced, Kelloggsville had an answer. But it was in the fourth quarter when the Eagles couldn’t stop the Rockets who scored 21 points.
KJ Herremans put Kent City on the board in the first quarter with a 15-yard fumble return. But Kelloggsville responded with a successful drive that was capped off by a Jon Mulero 2-yard run.
Jake Krueger gave the Eagles a 14-7 lead after he ran in from a yard out and Dalton Dayton followed up with the PAT. Again Kelloggsville came right back and Josh Rocafort made the score 14-13 off of a 6-yard run.
Kelloggsville’s Austin Spratling gave the Rockets a 20-14 lead before halftime, breaking free for a 32-yard score. Rocafort opened the second half with a 31-yard TD run for a 26-14 lead.
Kent City’s Chad Brown made the score 26-22 off of a 28-yard scoring run. But Kelloggsville assembled another scoring drive that finished with a Rocafort 4-yard run into the end zone.
Brown would put Kent City on the board one more time after hooking up on a 10-yard TD pass from Krueger, making the score 33-28 in favor of Kelloggsville.
Rocafort would score another TD for the Rockets, this time from 29 yards out, and Andre Price would later run in from 16 yards to round out scoring for Kelloggsville.
Krueger led Kent City at quarterback throwing a TD in the air and rushing for one. He was 12-of-35 passing for 195 yards with one interception.
Chad Brown finished with two TD’s and compiled 94 yards rushing on nine attempts and had three catches for 57 yards.
Chase Stockhill had 45 yards receiving on a pair of catches and Brendon Rodenburg had 41 yards on two catches. Shane Rodenburg caught three pass for 36 yards for Kent City.
Defensively KJ Harremans ruled for Kent City with 19 total tackles. Stockhill and Kyle Boyd both had 11 tackles and Tyler Ergang had nine.
Dustin Heeringa and Brendon Rodenburg each had six tackles for Kent City.
