The Reeths-Puffer boys soccer team  avenged an earlier 3-1 loss to the Zeeland East Chix with a 1-0 victory Tuesday in O-K Black Conference action.

In the first half, R-P’s Caleb Sampson took a free kick just outside the penalty box. When the ball hit off the crossbar, Chase Sitkaviskis, a freshman, headed the ball into the back of the net for the lone goal of the game. Both teams had many opportunities to score, but were unable to.

“We had a similar start against Mona Shores last week,” said Reeths-Puffer Coach Keith Knapp. “We were ahead 1-0 late in the game, and we let them score; eventually we lost that game in OT. The boys were determined not to let that happen again.

“Troy Gilmore played his best high school game in goal for us. He was fantastic. And our defenders played a very focused game. It was a fun evening.”
