GREENVILLE – Mona Shores entered the 2013 girls golf postseason as four-time defending state champions. While this year’s squad might not have the star-power of previous Sailor teams, it at least gave itself a chance to make it five in a row, finishing second overall at Thursday’s Div. 2 Region 2 meet at Links of Bowen Lake Golf Course near Greenville.

This marks the sixth-straight year Mona Shores has advanced as a team to the state meet.

The Sailors trailed by 45 strokes first-place Forest Hills Central, which finished with 350 strokes to take the title.  Third-place Greenville also qualified for a state-meet appearance with a 399.

Forest Hills Central juniors Evon Shay and Maddie Lorenz tied for medalist honors with a stroke count of 84, while Sailor junior Rylee George (88) finished third and teammate Darian Smith (95) was seventh overall.

Reeths-Puffer’s Hannah Moss earned an individual state-meet qualifying score of 96, good for eighth overall.

The Div. 2 state meet runs Oct. 18-19 at the East Forest Akers Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State University.
