Muskegon Community College advanced to the Region XII volleyball finals on Sunday, but couldn’t get past a tough Grand Rapids Community College team.

The Jayhawks played GRCC strong in three of the four games, but were only able to take Game 3, 25-17. MCC lost Game 1 by a score of 26-24 and fell in Game 4, 25-23. GRCC won 25-14 in Game 2.

Before advancing to the semifinals, MCC had to battle through a tough field of opponents. The Jayhawks beat Ancilla College 3-0, but lost their next match to Vincennes University 3-1. They followed up with wins over Kalamazoo Valley Community College 3-2, and Sinclair Community College 3-0 in the losers bracket. MCC had to face Vincennes in a semifinal rematch and won in three games, 25-23, 25-17, 25-16.

Beka German and Elyse Ray led MCC and were selected to the All Tournament Team.

In the finals, Brandie Jones led MCC in kills and digs with 16 and 18 respectively.

Meghan Birr had 40 assists, 11 digs and one block while Beka German had nine kills, 11 digs, three blocks and an ace.

Amber Carmean hustled for 15 digs and two aces, Elyse Ray tallied eight kills and one block, and Autumn Winger had four kills and a block.

Brooke Morgan had 16 digs and Lindsey Kotecki had four kills for the Jayhawks.
