Six writers were able to live and move on to the second round of the LSJ’s Football Picks Championship. Two writers were left in the dust.
There were some tough choices to make last week in the opening round of the playoffs. Spring Lake unfortunately could not overcome a tough Belding team. Fremont was another that hated to see its dream season come to an end. Mona Shores was right on the verge of its first playoff win.
But with the picks came wins and loses and the LSJ writers were in the mix.
Mark Lewis, who was the football picks regular season winner, tied Dave Tomczak as both had 7-1 records. Shawn Liverance and Mr. Jimmy Moyes also went 7-1 last week and ended in a tie. The ties move all four on to the next round of the Football Picks Championship (FPC).
John Jarvi’s 7-1 record last week was too much for LSJ editor Steve Gunn’s 5-3 performance. Gunn is done.
In the battle of co-Publishers, Ron Rop and Jason Goorman looked like they were close to a horn locking. But Rop made it look easy with a 7-1 record against Goorman’s lackluster 5-3 report. Goorman has officially lost the spelling B.
LSJ writes have been up all week wondering how area teams will handle the second round of the 2013 football playoffs.
There are no gimmes in high school football and this week is no different for area teams. Muskegon will have its hands full with Lowell no doubt and should be the blockbuster game of the night.
Look for Muskegon Catholic to keep on its path while Oakridge and Shelby have good opportunities on Friday as well.
