FRUITPORT – Spring Lake had little trouble dispensing with Oakridge at Wednesday night’s Class B district semifinal match, with the Lakers defeating the Eagles 25-18, 25-16, 25-12.

Spring Lake now moves on to face Whitehall – who defeated host Fruitport 3-0 – at Thursday’s district final match.

“We were in control for most of the match,” said Spring Lake coach Sarah Bulthuis. “Our passing was consistent which allowed the setter to run many options. Defense and serve receive was very consistent. The hitters did a good job of shot selection and mixed up their offense.  We need to carry this ball control over into the district final match.”

Leading the way for Spring Lake was Kelsee Zuidema, who totaled 15 kills, 15 digs, five aces, 10 points and a block, while Karley Engelsman had 31 assists, 6 points and 11 digs, and Lydia Suchecki contributed seven kills, two aces, 10 points and six digs.

Courtney Kyser finished with four kills, an ace, five points and two blocks, with Bre Burns totaling four kills and one block, Breanna Williams had four kills and two digs, and Rachel Pennington added 12 digs, two aces and eight points for the Lakers.

Spring Lake’s record now stands at 42-8-2.
