WALKERVILLE – Sure, due to dangerous, icy conditions, most schools canceled their basketball games Friday night.

But then, those schools probably didn’t have a huge rival game on the docket.

As they say, ‘The show must go on,’ and it did Friday night with the visiting Petwater Falcons upending area and West Michigan D League rival Walkerville 44-27 and improve to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Last year, the Pewtater girls went just 4-17.

Holding the host Wildcats to single-digit scoring across the first three quarters, Pentwater racked up a 24-7 lead at the break, and a 34-14 lead after three.

Pentwater was led by sophomore guard Emily Gebharp, who finished with 15 points, while freshman guard Linnea McDonough had 11 points and game-highs in rebounds (eight) and blocks (five). Freshman guard  Anna Hoffman finished with eight points and three steals, and eighth grader Taylor Wilkinson (small schools all eighth grade players five years of eligibility) added four points and four assists in the win.
