Kody Ambrose scored 22 points, including five triples, and hauled in seven rebounds to propel Mason County Central to a season-opening 56-41 victory over Ludington in non-conference boys basketball.

Before the season, coaches from both teams talked about the contest’s importance, as they just might face each other in the district tournament this March.

The Spartans trailed by four points after one quarter and only led by a point at the half, but pulled away by outscoring the Orioles 34-20 in the second half.

Josh Ritsema added 14 points and five assists for the winners while Johnny Shafter had 13 points and seven rebounds.

“Ludington really came out and played us tough,” said MCC Coach Jeff Tuka. “They are really young and are only going to get better. Kody Ambrose put us on his back in the first half.  It was a good team victory.  We had positive minutes from our whole bench.”

Freshman Noah Lahman led Ludington with 13 points and six rebounds. Remington Rohrer added nine points and nine rebounds.
