The Newaygo girls basketball team held off host Reed City Thursday night, outscoring the Coyotes by six in the final quarter to earn the 54-46 win in Central States Activities Association hoops action.

Newaygo (1-4) won its first game of the season getting an outstanding effort from four-year starter Shelby Boyd, who finished with a game-high 17 points, eight steals, eight rebounds and five assists, while teammate Riley Knight added 14 points, and Madi Giese added seven points, four steals and four assist in the win.

Jacolyn Mullins led the Coyotes with 13 points.
